Klasyk bez dwóch zdań. I oczywiście trio braci Gibbów no i piosenka. Jedna z lepszych ich tzw. 'pogorączkowego' okresu. 'Saturday Night Fever' było zimowym szczytem K-2 angielsko - australijskiego zespołu (w końcu stricte amerykańskiego). Bracia Gibb jako dzieciaki wyemigrowały z rodzicami na Antypody, stąd przez długu okres czasu nazywano ich zespołem z krainy kangurów. Ale popularność zdobyli przede wszystkim za oceanem.
W utworze tym chyba jedyny raz bardzo wyraźną partię wokalną - swoim markowym falsettem - śpiewa Robin, uzupełniany chórkami Barry'ego, głównego głosu Bee Gees, w stylu tych najbardziej rozpoznawalnych Bee Geesów z filmu z Johnem Travoltą. Jak zawsze w przypadku produkcji braci, także i ta piosenka to majstersztyk wokalny.
Nie zamierzam się zbyt długo rozpisywać ma temat zespołu (jest o Bee Gees sporo na blogu). Dodam tylko jedno. Oprócz The Beatles trudno mi znaleźć drugi taki zespół czy artystę, którego nagrania z początkowego okresu tak bardzo się różnią od tych dajmy na to 10 lat później. The Beatles? Posłuchajcie 'She Loves You' i dajmy na to 'Penny Lane'. Bee Gees ? Proszę bardzo, 'Our World' lub 'Lamplight' i dajmy na to 'You Should Be Dancing'.
O powstaniu proponowanej dzisiaj 'Alone' Maurice Gibb wspominał: To była jedna z pierwszych piosenek, którą napisaliśmy na album. Doskonale pamiętam ile mieliśmy dobrej zabawy pisząc ten numer. Siedzieliśmy w trójkę w studiu gdy zagrałem akord brzmiący jak szkocka kobza. Barry szybko zaprogramował ten akord na komputerze.
Uznaliśmy, że jest w porządku. Nigdy nie piszemy piosenek tak, że zakładamy, że teraz to będzie ballada lub numer R&B. Po prostu mówimy sobie: Idźmy tą drogą. I tak było tym razem i w ten sposób powstała 'Alone'. Uwielbiam wers: 'I'm on a wheel of fortune with a twist of fate.' Z powodu harmonii chórków brzmi to trochę jak kawałek z lat 50-tych. Podobało nam się też to, że numer był trochę w stylu 'beatlesowskich piosenek'. W stylu The Byrds, chcieliśmy tam 12-strunowej gitary ale ostatecznie pozostaliśmy przy brzmieniu kobzy. Wszystko razem nieźle zagrało. Powstało bardzo ekscytujące demo. Co do kobz, nie byliśmy ich tak pewni, ale Robin ostatecznie nas do tego przekonał. Mówił, że są świetne, że musimy je zostawić.
